About 4 Steer Ranch

We are located in the small town of Creston, California; approximately 30 miles North of the town of San Luis Obispo. Our ranch is home to Corriente decorative cattle, AQHA & APHA working ranch horses and UKC Rat Terriers.

UKC RAT TERRIERS

We take great pride in breeding and raising quality UKC registered Rat Terrier puppies according to UKC requirements. We take the responsibility of producing healthy, standard; type A puppies with excellent working and hunting ability. Each of our puppies is handled and properly socialized from birth, ensuring a puppy with outstanding personality and beautiful type and color. Our dogs live and work on our ranch as a part of our family and are constantly enriched in a working environment of cattle, horses, livestock and most importantly, children. ( We dock tails and remove dew claws at birth per breed standards.)

We take careful consideration in the proper placement of each puppy.

CORRIENTE DECORATIVE CATTLE

At 4 Steer Ranch, we breed and maintain a small herd of Corriente Decorative Cattle. Our cattler are free range on pasture. We breed the more decorative lines of the corriente cattle always hoping for a splashy calf. Similar to the Texas Longhorn, but significantly smaller, they require less water and can live on sparse open range. They make for wonderful “lawn mowers” and can keep a terrific fire break around your fenced property or can do a great job with your rodeo events. We breed for splashy coloring which makes them decorative and a great conversation piece.

The Corriente is a breed of cattle that descended from Spanish animals brought to the Americas in the late 1400s. Corriente cattle are often the number one choice of cowboys for roping and bulldogging; the Corrientes makes a wonderful all purpose animal. They are primarily used today as sport cattle, for rodeo events such as team roping, bulldogging, and calf roping, etc., although some breeders raise them for their meat, which is significantly leaner than the meat from most modern beef cattle.

CORRIENTE DECORATIVE Bulls / Steers

Corrientes are fairly small cattle, with cows averaging well under 1,000 pounds. They are lean, athletic, and have long upcurving horns. They are known as “easy keepers,” as there is very little human intervention required in their calving, and they eat significantly less than traditinal beef cattle.

AQHA and APHA WORKING RANCH HORSES

The 4 Steer Ranch is a fully functional ranch and we maintain our own 8 amazing horses, 6 of which are working ranch horses. We have 1 old mare who is retired and living out her life in pasture. Also we have one stud colt who was weaned in September 2010 and will be started right here on the ranch.

Our horses are part of our family, as a matter of fact, when we go camping, we take them with us!

Monkey

Working Ranch Horse Monkey

– APHA 1996 “Mister Vango” Gelding

Monkey is our loud paint horse. He is 16 hands high and very stout. We use him for everything on the ranch. He ropes, brands, sorts and gathers cattle. He has been in parades and done Grand Entries with a flag in rodeos. He is all heart and always goes the distance for us.

Dusty

Working Ranch Horse Dusty

– AQHA 1996 “Dusty Rose” Mare

Dusty is our Buckskin mare. She is 14 hands high and also stocky. She has been our son’s Jr. Rodeo & Gymkhana horse. When his legs out grew his horse she was passed down to our daughter who promptly won her first buckle with Dusty at 5 years old! We think she is such a great mare we bred her to “First Class Chipiwa”. She had her first foal in April, and true to form she is a great mother!

Souix

Working Ranch Horse Souix

– AQHA 2010 “A Boy Named Souix” Stud Colt

Souix is Dusty’s stud colt. He is a Cremello and looks identical to his Sire. We have been imprinting and handling him daily. He is halter broke and uses the leadline. We are waiting for him to grow, so for now he is just a weanling learning to be a horse.

Boogie

Working Ranch Horse Boogie

– AQHA 2001 “L D Boogalou” Gelding

Boogie is our Bay gelding. He stands 14.2 hands high and was a finished cutting horse when we bought him. Originally he was bought for when our son grew out of Dusty. While we waited for that we used him on the ranch roping, cutting, sorting and penning. He has learned to trail ride but prefers to have a cow to chase. He currently tracks his buddy goat around the pasture. He is a fast mover and a pleasure to ride. Now that our son has started on him, they are a perfect match. Both love to go fast and chase cows!

Elvis

Working Ranch Horse Elvis

– AQHA 2002 “Young Elvis” Gelding

Elvis is our Sorrel gelding. He stands 15.2 hands and is a finished reiner. Elvis loves to do all ranch work. He will go from sun up til sun down. He is full of energy and personality. He is always motivated and eager to please. Elvis really loves to Team Penn and heals a little out of the box for roping. If you like to go fast, you better sit deep because he will run like the wind! And make sure your deep in the saddle when you ask him to stop because his back legs slide all the way to his chin! Talk about a fun ride!

Trumpet is a buckskin gelding. He stands 15.2 hands high. He is a very quite horse. He is an excellent rope horse and will always put you in the right spot.
